1. Information We Collect

When you create an account or use WatchPartyLive, we collect personal data in the following categories:

1.1 Account Information

When you register, we collect your name, email address, and password. Passwords are stored exclusively as bcrypt hashes — we never have access to your actual password and cannot retrieve it. If you sign in using Google or Apple Single Sign-On, we receive basic profile information (name and email) from those identity providers as permitted by your settings with them.

1.2 Usage Data

We collect information about how you interact with the Service: the rooms you visit, features you use, and actions you take within the platform. This data helps us identify bugs, prioritize improvements, and understand how people use WatchPartyLive at an aggregate level.

1.3 Device and Technical Data

We automatically collect standard technical information including your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, and device identifiers. This data is required to deliver and secure the Service reliably across different devices and network conditions.

1.4 Chat and Communications

Messages you send in watch party rooms or direct messages are stored to enable the real-time chat feature. Room hosts may be able to view messages sent in their rooms. We do not read or analyze message content for advertising purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect exclusively for the following purposes:

• To provide, operate, maintain, and improve the WatchPartyLive Service
• To send essential transactional communications (account verification, password resets, billing receipts)
• To send product updates and our weekly newsletter, where you have opted in (you can unsubscribe at any time)
• To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent activity, abuse, and security threats
• To comply with our legal obligations and respond to support requests
• To generate anonymized, aggregated analytics that help us understand usage patterns

We do not use your data to train AI or machine learning models, sell to third-party data brokers, or serve behavioral or targeted advertising of any kind.

3. Data Sharing

We share your personal data only in the following limited, controlled circumstances:

• Trusted Service Providers: We work with a small number of carefully selected vendors — including MongoDB Atlas (database hosting), Vercel (infrastructure), and Stripe (payment processing) — who process data on our behalf under strict data processing agreements that prohibit them from using your data for their own purposes.
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose data if required to do so by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users or the general public.
• Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the successor entity. We will provide prominent notice before any such transfer and give you the opportunity to delete your account.

We never sell, rent, or trade your personal data to data brokers, advertisers, or any third party for their own commercial purposes.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account remains active or as necessary to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your personal data from our active systems within 30 days. Certain data may be retained longer where required by law — for example, billing records are retained for seven years to satisfy tax and accounting compliance requirements. This residual data is stored in restricted, isolated systems and is not used for any operational purpose.

5. Your Rights and Choices

• Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data

• Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the link in any email we send

We will respond to all verified data requests within 30 days. In complex cases, we may extend this by an additional 30 days with notice.

6. Children's Privacy

WatchPartyLive is not directed at or intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
